Salary negotiation in interviews: what to say

Salary talk is part of the interview. Handled well, it raises your offer without risking it.

Salary negotiation questions

Research before the call
Know the market range for the role, city and experience from job posts, peers and salary sites.
'What are your expectations?'
Give a range anchored slightly above your target, based on the role's market rate, not just your current pay.
'What is your current CTC?'
Answer honestly; companies may verify. Then steer to what the new role is worth.
Negotiate the whole package
Fixed pay, variable, joining bonus, notice buyout, location and growth all count.
Use competing offers carefully
Mention them only if real, and stay respectful. The goal is a fair offer, not a bidding war.
Get it in writing
Confirm the final numbers in the offer letter before you resign from your current job.

  3. 3It maps every topic they could askMust-know first, your own projects included, built into short daily lessons.
  4. 4You practise, then get certifiedInterview Q&A after every lesson, then three proctored rounds ending in a voice interview with Ambo.

Questions, answered.

Can negotiating salary cost me the offer?

Rarely, if you are polite and your ask is backed by market data. Unrealistic or aggressive demands are what hurt.

What hike should I ask for when switching jobs?

It depends on the market and your skills, but ground it in the role's market range rather than a fixed percentage.

How is this different from a list of interview questions?

A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.

What is the certification test?

Three camera-proctored rounds that unlock one after another: an objective round, a hands-on round (coding or practical tasks for your role) and a voice interview with Ambo, who asks live follow-ups on your answers. Pass all three within 14 days to become TickBig Certified for 12 months.

Practise it out loud before the real one.
