Full Stack Developer interview questions, and how to answer them

Full stack interviews check that you can own a feature end to end: the UI, the API, the database and getting it deployed.

Full Stack Developer interview questions

  1. How does JWT authentication work, and where do you store the token?

What they’re testing: Security across the stack.

How to answer: The server signs a token with claims; the client sends it on each request. HttpOnly cookies protect against XSS; localStorage is simpler but riskier. Mention expiry and refresh tokens.

  2. Design the database for a simple e-commerce cart.

    What they’re testing: Schema design.

How to answer: Users, products, carts, cart_items and orders, with foreign keys and indexes on user_id. Explain why price is copied into the order.

  3. Your API is slow under load. What do you do?

What they’re testing: Performance across layers.

How to answer: Measure, then fix the biggest cost: add indexes, cache frequent reads (Redis), paginate, move heavy work to a queue.

  4. What is CORS and why does it exist?

    What they’re testing: Web fundamentals.

How to answer: Browsers block cross-origin requests unless the server allows them with CORS headers, protecting users from malicious sites calling APIs with their cookies.

  5. Walk me through deploying your project.

    What they’re testing: Real ownership.

How to answer: Explain the build, environment variables, hosting, database, CI/CD and how you monitor errors after release.

How the interview usually runs

  1. Round 1Online coding test
  2. Round 2Frontend round (JavaScript and React)
  3. Round 3Backend and database round
  4. Round 4System design and project round

Which stack is most asked for full stack roles in India?

MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) is the most common, followed by Java Spring with React. Prepare the stack on your resume deeply.

Do full stack interviews include DSA?

Usually one coding round, often lighter than for pure backend roles, plus practical questions on APIs and databases.

How is this different from a list of interview questions?

A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.

What is the certification test?

Three camera-proctored rounds that unlock one after another: an objective round, a hands-on round (coding or practical tasks for your role) and a voice interview with Ambo, who asks live follow-ups on your answers. Pass all three within 14 days to become TickBig Certified for 12 months.
