The complete interview guide: before, during and after

Most interviews are lost on preparation, not talent. This guide covers everything from the week before to the follow-up email.

Interview guide

One week before
Study the job description, map each requirement to an example from your work, revise fundamentals and prepare the story of every project on your resume.
Two days before
Research the company, its products and recent news. Prepare three questions to ask the interviewer. Do a mock interview out loud.
On the day
Arrive or log in early, test your camera and mic for online rounds, keep a copy of your resume and a notepad.
During the interview
Listen to the full question, think for a moment, answer in a clear structure and use real examples with numbers. It is fine to ask for clarification.
When you do not know
Say so honestly, then explain how you would find out or reason through it. Interviewers value the approach.
After the interview
Send a short thank-you note, write down the questions you were asked and work on any you struggled with.

Questions, answered.

What questions should I ask at the end of an interview?

Ask about the team, what success looks like in the first 90 days and the next steps in the process.

How do I calm interview nerves?

Preparation and practice out loud are the best cures. One realistic mock interview reduces nerves a lot.

How is this different from a list of interview questions?

A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.

What is the certification test?

Three camera-proctored rounds that unlock one after another: an objective round, a hands-on round (coding or practical tasks for your role) and a voice interview with Ambo, who asks live follow-ups on your answers. Pass all three within 14 days to become TickBig Certified for 12 months.

Practise it out loud before the real one.
