Group discussion tips for placements and interviews
A group discussion tests communication, clarity of thought and teamwork in front of evaluators. Talking the most rarely wins it.
Group discussion tips
- Open well if you can
- Starting with a clear definition or framing of the topic shows confidence, but only if you have a solid point.
- Quality over quantity
- Three thoughtful contributions beat ten repeated ones. Bring facts and examples.
- Listen and build
- Refer to others' points by name and add to them. Evaluators look for teamwork, not domination.
- Disagree politely
- Acknowledge the other view, then give your reason and evidence. Never interrupt or raise your voice.
- Bring in quiet members
- Inviting someone who has not spoken shows leadership.
- Summarise if you get the chance
- A balanced conclusion covering the main views leaves a strong final impression.

What are common GD topics?
Current affairs, technology and AI, economy, education and abstract topics like 'zero' or 'red'.
What if I know nothing about the GD topic?
Listen first, pick up the key points, then add a logical angle or ask a clarifying question to join in.
How is this different from a list of interview questions?
A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.
What is the certification test?
Three camera-proctored rounds that unlock one after another: an objective round, a hands-on round (coding or practical tasks for your role) and a voice interview with Ambo, who asks live follow-ups on your answers. Pass all three within 14 days to become TickBig Certified for 12 months.
