HR round interview questions and how to answer them
The HR round checks fit, motivation and expectations. The questions are predictable, so a little preparation goes a long way.
HR round interview questions
- Tell me about yourself.
- Present, past, future in about a minute: what you do now, what you did before that is relevant, and why this role is the next step.
- Why do you want to join us?
- Name something specific about the company, the role or the product, and connect it to your goals.
- Why are you leaving your current job?
- Stay positive and forward-looking: growth, scope or learning. Never criticise your current employer.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- One strength with proof, and a real weakness you are actively working on, with what you are doing about it.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- Show ambition that fits the role's growth path, not a plan to leave quickly.
- What are your salary expectations?
- Give a researched range based on the role and market, and say you are open to discussing the full package.

Questions, answered.
Is the HR round an elimination round?
It can be. Red flags like unrealistic salary expectations, poor communication or a mismatch on notice period can end the process.
How long should my answer to 'tell me about yourself' be?
About 60 to 90 seconds. Long enough to show your story, short enough to keep attention.
How is this different from a list of interview questions?
A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.
What is the certification test?
Three camera-proctored rounds that unlock one after another: an objective round, a hands-on round (coding or practical tasks for your role) and a voice interview with Ambo, who asks live follow-ups on your answers. Pass all three within 14 days to become TickBig Certified for 12 months.
