Data Analyst interview questions, and how to answer them
Data analyst interviews test SQL above everything, then Excel, a BI tool and how you turn numbers into a business recommendation.
Data Analyst interview questions

What they’re testing: Window functions.
How to answer: Use DENSE_RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY dept ORDER BY salary DESC) and filter rank = 2. Explain why DENSE_RANK handles ties.

How to answer: WHERE filters rows before grouping; HAVING filters groups after aggregation.
Sales dropped 20% last month. How would you investigate?
What they’re testing: Structured business thinking.
How to answer: Confirm the data is right, then break it down by region, product, channel and customer segment to find where the drop is, and check for outside causes.
When would you use the median instead of the mean?
What they’re testing: Statistics in practice.
How to answer: When data is skewed or has outliers, like salaries or order values, the median shows the typical value better.

A lot. Expect joins, aggregations, subqueries, CTEs and window functions, often written live.
Do data analysts need Python?
Many roles list it. pandas basics help, but SQL, Excel and a BI tool are tested more often.

A list is the same for everyone. Ambo builds your course from your resume, your target role and where you're interviewing, then writes every lesson from the interviewer's point of view: what they'll ask, a strong answer, and the follow-up they'll use to test you.
What is the certification test?
