How to Choose the Right Vendor or Service Provider: A Simple Checklist

Whether it's a plumber, caterer, CA or web developer, use this checklist to compare quotes and pick a reliable vendor.

Choosing a vendor feels easy until something goes wrong: a late delivery, a surprise charge, work that doesn't match what was promised. A little structure up front saves a lot of stress later.

Step 1: Describe exactly what you need

Write down the scope, location, date or deadline, and a budget range. Clear requests get clearer quotes.

On TickBig, you post this once and matching vendors bid, so you don't have to call around. → Post a request

Step 2: Get more than one quote

Comparing two or three bids helps you understand fair pricing and what's included.

Step 3: Look at real work

  • Instagram and website: recent, relevant work is the best signal.
  • Similar projects: a wedding caterer for 300 guests is different from a house-party caterer.

Step 4: Compare scope, not just price

The cheapest bid may leave things out. Check materials, timelines, number of revisions, travel and what happens if something goes wrong.

Step 5: Check credentials where it matters

For licensed services (doctors, lawyers, CAs, financial advisors, real estate agents, security agencies), verify registrations and licences with the relevant authority.

Step 6: Talk before you commit

A short chat tells you a lot: how quickly they respond, how clearly they explain, and whether they listen.

Step 7: Put it in writing

Confirm scope, price, timeline and payment terms in writing, even in chat. Avoid paying everything up front for large jobs; staged payments are common.

Quick checklist

  • Clear requirement posted
  • 2–3 bids compared
  • Real work reviewed
  • Scope and inclusions checked
  • Credentials verified (if licensed)
  • Terms agreed in writing
