ATS resume checker: the practical guide
An applicant tracking system reads your resume before any recruiter does. If it can't parse your sections or doesn't find the right keywords, you may never be seen. Ambo checks your resume the way an ATS does, and fixes what's wrong.
Why it matters
Recruiters spend only a few seconds on a first scan, and many companies filter resumes with ATS software before anyone reads them. Small fixes in format, keywords and wording decide whether you're shortlisted.
ATS formatting checklist
Use a clean, single-column layout. Tables, text boxes and graphics can confuse ATS software.
Use standard headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills.
Mirror the exact skill names from the job description, such as "Salesforce CRM", not just "CRM".
Write dates consistently, for example "Jan 2022 – Present".
Save as a PDF unless the employer asks for Word.
Write results, not duties
Start each bullet with a strong verb, say what you did and show the result with a number. "Handled customers" becomes "Resolved 40+ customer queries a day with a 95% satisfaction score".
If you can’t share exact numbers, use scale: team size, number of clients, budget or time saved.
Let AI do the first draft
The AI Resume Builder scores your resume across six areas, rewrites weak lines and rebuilds it ATS-friendly in about 2 minutes. You stay in control: Ambo only uses what's true about you.
